Inventory Management and Product Blending

Inventory Management and Product Blending are beneficial to a variety of people in the organization. Planning and Scheduling personnel use it for planning blends and future movement. Operations personnel use it for executing instructions. The Accounting personnel use it to evaluate operational data.

The Inventory Management and Product Blending solutions are in use in terminal and refinery sites globally in over 25 years, serving all of the major oil companies. The results are outstanding – on average, savings of more than US$ 4 million per year can be achieved by implementing an integrated gasoline or gas oil blending solution for a 200,000 barrel per day refinery.

 
 

Invensys Announces Latest Release of the Off-Sites Solution

Invensys releases version 2.0 of the Offsites Solution:

This software suite addresses two key areas contributing to overall refinery and terminal performance improvement: Inventory Management and Product Blending.

The main feature of the 2.0 release is a completely rebuilt Order Movement Management (OMM) module. The OMM module dates back to 1999, when it was first deployed. Since then it has become Invensys’ most widely used module together with the TIS (Tank Inventory System) module.

Internally this new OMM version has a technology and architecture update, which prepares it for the next decade. Externally, the most striking feature is a brand new, fully functional, web interface. In addition to the web interface there are significant performance improvements, enhancements to the existing client and improved overall robustness.

The 2.0 release does not currently support the BOSS (Blend optimization) and MAS (Movement Automation) modules. Users requiring these must continue to use the Version 1.6. The upcoming Version 2.1 release, expected during mid 2011, should fully support these modules.

 

Inventory Management

Consistent and accurate refinery inventory information is important in optimal planning, scheduling and material loss management. To achieve this, basic measurements such as tank-level and custody transfer must be in place.

Once the information is captured, validation and management are required to ensure that the available information is consistent. In addition, this information must be easily accessible from the refinery.

Product Blending

An integrated gasoline blending operation that combines off-line blend planning, scheduling and on-line optimization control significantly improves yield and efficiency. The Invensys solution includes all aspects of the process, right from the start through to final product certification.

The Invensys solution uses the core schedule as input and defines the optimum scenario for production of the refinery product (fuel) blends.
