Logic Validator

The SimSci-Esscor Logic Validator, part of the Dynamic Simulation Suite (DSS), is an automated test harness aimed at automating safety logic validation of safety instrumented systems (SIS) per ISA-S84. The Logic Validator automatically executes a series of commands that set tag or input variables, allows a loop to process, and verifies the outcome matches expectations. It is designed to work in a soft or simulated environment, separate from the real DCS or PLC hardware. This is a user friendly system, based on an Excel interface that provides automated control checkout.

Manual testing is labor intensive, requiring that each wire for an associated loop is connected and the loop validated.  This effort can take two to three hours for a highly-skilled engineer to validate a safety function during a plant turnaround. The SimSci-Esscor Logic Validator decouples this requirement freeing up critical engineering resources when they are needed most.  It provides safety assurance through reusable, extendable, automated  safety instrumented system validation by automating testing and streamlining the entire testing process without reducing the testing fidelity.

Key Benefits

  • Reduce logic testing time by decoupling logic testing from end device testing
  • Reduce planned outage time by several days by testing SIS prior to planned outage and freeing engineers during outage for other tasks
  • Assure validation of every loop each time the test executes
  • Comply with ISA-S84 documentation and verification requirements
  • Increase reliability, performance and productivity
  • Increase productivity by reusing the testing procedures time and time again
  • Identify unrecorded control logic modifications and track updates and revisions

Key Capabilities

  • Familiar & intuitive graphical user interface
  • Easy set-up for reusable test script
  • Ability to verify parameters being tested
  • Automated Factory Acceptance Test (FAT)
  • Ability to test alarms
  • Prescriptive SIS testing allows testing across multiple interlocks and platforms
