Ravi Gopinath, Ph.D.
President, Software Business
Ravi Gopinath, Ph.D., is president, software business, for the Invensys Operations Management division of Invensys plc, responsible for R&D; project management; regional sales; services, support and partnerships, including the company’s Ecosystem of Partners; and all functional support.
Before accepting this position, he served as president of Invensys Operations Management, Asia Pacific, responsible for all direct and indirect sales, including the Strategic Sales Centers, regional marketing engineering delivery, project and consulting services, and Enterprise Client Executives and Client Executives.
He has more than 15 years of global engineering solutions and services experience, beginning his professional career with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) in India in 1994. He started out at Tata’s corporate R&D center in Pune, setting up an advanced control group developing and implementing products for industrial application. He assumed leadership of its Manufacturing Industry Practice in 2000 and set up a strong business consulting organization within the practice. In 2003, he set up and ran the Engineering and Industrial Services strategic business of TCS as a dual responsibility, with a portfolio covering PLM, engineering design, MES, plant design and industrial automation and EAM. From a base of $80 million, he grew the business to more than $200 million in two years.
In 2006, Ravi joined Geometric Ltd, a specialist in engineering products and technologies, as its managing director and CEO. He was responsible for the fundamental transformation of Geometric from a tier-2 niche services company into a recognized PLM systems integrator and global engineering services provider. During this period he led the integration of Modern Engineering, a U.S.-based engineering services company, into Geometric and deployed a common global go-to-market position covering both companies under a single Geometric brand.
A chemical engineer by training, Gopinath graduated from IIT Bombay in 1989 and received his Ph.D. in advanced process control from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York in 1994.
