Invensys to Employ 500 in New Cairo Engineering Centre of Excellence

New facility meets needs of oil & gas markets; helps deliver Operational Excellence to global customers

DECEMBER 14, 2010 / DUBAI – Invensys Operations Management, a global provider of technology systems, software solutions and consulting services to the manufacturing and infrastructure operations industries, today announced the opening of a new 4,500-square-meter Engineering Centre of Excellence in Cairo, Egypt, strengthening its commitment to clients in the Middle East and North Africa.

Invensys has been very active in the Middle East and North Africa and is rapidly expanding in the region having established a joint venture operation with two Egyptian partners (ENNPI and GASCO) in 2008. “As a leading provider of industrial automation systems and services, we understand how important this region is to the global oil and gas industries. Our new facility allows us to provide better service and support to our valued customers, no matter their location, as they pursue operational excellence in real time,” said Sudipta Bhattacharya, president and chief executive officer, Invensys Operations Management.

Egypt is playing an increasingly important role in the world oil and gas market with its operation of the Suez Canal and the Sumed (Suez-Mediterranean) Pipeline, two critical routes for the export of Gulf oil and liquid natural gas. The new facility is the company’s largest Engineering Centre of Excellence, providing training and customer support for project engineering. More than 350 Egyptian engineers there receive cutting-edge training, after which they are deployed regionally and globally to provide project support services. Invensys expects the number of engineers operating from the Cairo Centre to increase to 500 within two years.

“Strategically the Cairo Engineering Centre is very important to us and our clients, as it will provide an important base to assist with the engineering of oil and gas projects,” said Mohamed Farouk, Ph.D., senior vice president, delivery operations excellence, Invensys Operations Management. “Existing Invensys business units will now be able to execute projects more cost effectively, with the centre serving as the primary point of contact for Invensys in the region. The office is also the focal point for all maintenance and service work to support the considerable quantity of Invensys-supplied products and solutions already installed in the area. With the continued support of the Egyptian community and government officials, we look forward to developing more business for the benefit of our clients and communities in the region.”
